Chelsea's £62m player confirmed his departure from Stamford bridge

Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that one Chelsea player is set to see his situation be assessed at the end of the season.

He told Caught Offside that defender Marc Cucurella is one of the players who will have to wait to see what the project at Stamford Bridge holds and if it includes him in it.

Cucurella joined the club in the summer of 2022 for £62m, however has failed to make the desired impact since his step up.

He has also seen his current campaign largely affected by injuries. In the year of 2024, he is yet to feature for the Blues

This has seen Ben Chilwell forced to play the majority of the minutes in the position, which has certainly been risky for a player who has returned off the back of a serious injury.

Romano has now claimed that Cucurella could still be on the move at the end of the season, depending on what happens regarding the future of the club.

Romano on Cucurella

He said: “Marc Cucurella – The Chelsea left-back has been linked with a return to La Liga. My understanding is that he is one of the situations to be assessed at the end of the season.

“Cucurella, Chalobah and more…these players are waiting to see what Chelsea decide to do in terms of project, tactical plans for next season, the manager situation.”

The left-back role is likely to be one that goes under great change at the end of the season, with Ian Maatsen likely to be on the move too.

The Dutchman is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, enjoying arguably the best football of his career right now.

Given the promise that he showed in pre-season, it is perhaps surprising he didn’t get more opportunities under Mauricio Pochettino.

This is especially true when taking into account that the boss did not see a future for Lewis Hall, who is currently on loan with an obligation to buy at Newcastle United.
