Chelsea's plan for the future of Estevao Willian has become clearer following his signing earlier this year, according to the Evening Standard.
The 17-year-old Brazilian winger, who joined Chelsea from Palmeiras in a deal that could rise to £52 million, will officially make the move to Stamford Bridge next summer.
Estevao’s versatility on the field makes him a promising addition to the team.
Chelsea see Estevao primarily in a central role, despite his ability to operate effectively on the wings or across the front line.
His agent, Andre Cury, shared insights on this perspective: “Chelsea is a club that sees Estevao playing as a number ten. For us, that is important. He can develop even more playing in the middle.”
This position is typically occupied by Cole Palmer.
Estevao’s talent has been evident both at Palmeiras and on the international stage, where he is often compared to Neymar.
The Brazilian superstar himself has praised Estevao, saying, “He is a great talent that is emerging in Brazilian football today. I think he's going to be a genius.”
The excitement surrounding Estevao has intensified following his recent debut for Brazil’s senior team.
He was called up for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay and made his debut in a 1-0 victory over Ecuador. Estevao came off the bench and replaced Luiz Henrique, with the match’s only goal scored by Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
Looking ahead, Estevao will hope to secure more playing time when Brazil faces Paraguay.
His debut makes him the second-youngest player to represent Brazil, trailing only Endrick, who recently joined Real Madrid.
Estevao joins a growing list of South American talents at Chelsea, including Ecuadorian sensation Kendry Paez and Brazilians Andrey Santos, David Washington, and Angelo Gabriel.
