Ignorance makes Samuel Eto'o think he's the best striker in Africa - Drogba

Former Chelsea and Cote D’Ivore forward Didier Drogba hit back at Samuel Eto’o over his comment that he’s the greatest striker to ever come out of the continent of Africa.

Eto’o made the headline last week after claiming the duo of Didier Drogba and Senegal legend El Hadji Diouf were not at his level during their playing career and they should not try to compare their football career to his.

Drogba who failed to win major title with the Ivorian national team, despite playing and leading the most talented set of players in the history of the west African nation, has now disclosed that Eto’o has right to his opinion, but he won’t continue the debate of who’s better between them.

The Former Galatasaray forward added that he would rather continue to motivate the next generation of African footballers to beat the records they set.

“He has the right to expression, my education does not allow me to answer, only UEFA is witness to the fact that Africa has great players, and some are among the top 20 sorers in the history of the Champions League.

‘My brothers Samuel Eto’o and El-Hadji Diouf were great players as was Ronaldinho at Barcelona. “

“Everyone has their star, today there is a new generation of footballers. Brothers like Saido Mane and Mohamed Salah do wonders in clubs and could do better than former players.”

Drogba is the highest African goalscorers in the UEFA Champions League with 44 goals, while Samuel Eto’o is second with 30 goals, despite playing for Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea.

The Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are next with 22 goals and 16 goals respectively while Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is fifth with 15 goals.

Drogba however believed that his record will be thing of the past in few years and he also called on Diouf and Eto’o to encourage other African players.

‘I cannot say in the eyes of the world that I will remain the best African scorer in LEAGUE DES CHAMPIONS, the world is evolving and there is still talent in AFRICA. “

“I will tell Samuel Eto’o and El-Hadji Diouf to encourage our young brothers who play in different clubs to enhance African football and continue to represent Africa in the world. Africa wins.“ he said.

Drogba had a successful career and played for teams like Le mans, Marseille, Chelsea, Galatasaray and others.

He three premier league titles, the UEFA Champions league, English FA cups during his time with Chelsea.

He was named African footballer the year twice, but failed to win major honours for his country.
