Esther Onyenezide scored brace as Falconets beat Canada 3-1 in FIFA U20 World Cup

In-form Esther Onyenezide was the heroine for the Falconets of Nigeria again on Thursday morning, as she netted a brace to guide them to a remarkable 3-1 comeback victory over Canada Under 20 Women’s National team in their Matchday 3 of the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The 19 years old scored Nigeria’s only goal in their hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Korea in their last game, and she was able to perform excellently again on Thursday morning.

The youngster was given another starting role by her coach, following her outstanding performance for the team in their previous matches, and she was able to impress again, as she played a vital role in the team’s victory.

Kaila Novak broke the deadlock for Canada Under 20 Women’s National team in the 2nd minute, and Esther Onyenezide equalized for Nigeria in the 24th minute via a penalty kick before she scored another goal in the 32nd minute to end the first half 2-1.

Esther tried all the best she could to score another goal in the second half of the game in order to complete her hat-trick, but she was denied by impressive Canada goalkeeper Anna Karpenko, before substitute Chioma Olise scored the last goal of the game in the 90th minute to end the match ended 3-1.

The victory over Canada Under 20 Women’s National team has now taken the Falconets of Nigeria to the quarterfinals of the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica with 9 points from 3 matches played.
