Chelsea to sell star defender to AC Milan

Chelsea are more likely to sell one of Benoit Badiashile’s team-mates than the central defender.

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are interested in signing Benoit Badiashile.

However, the same outlet also claims that Malang Sarr could become an option for Milan and that Chelsea would be more inclined to letting him go than his compatriot.

Badiashile returned from injury not too long ago and is yet to start a game in the Premier League for Chelsea. However, he was included in Mauricio Pochettino‘s first XI for the Carabao Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers, in which he managed to score in.

As for Sarr, he has been nowhere near the first-team picture at Chelsea this season, making a January exit more than possible.

Who is more likely to leave Chelsea, Benoit Badiashile or Malang Sarr?

It is quite clear that Sarr has no future at Chelsea, whereas Badiashile’s fortunes could easily change soon.

True, the Frenchman may not be playing now, but that could change next season, as Thiago Silva’s contract expires before then.

If the 39-year-old does not sign a new deal, then Badiashile could come in and take his left centre-back spot.

Badiashile obviously does not possess as much experience as the Brazil legend, but what he does have is height. The former AS Monaco man stands at 6 ft 4 and last term, he managed to win 3.2 aerial duels per game in the Premier League, the highest average in Chelsea’s squad (WhoScored).

Going into the 2024/25 campaign, then, Pochettino could have Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana as his centre-half options, with Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Sarr all moving on by then.

If a transfer to Milan does not materialise for Sarr, a switch to another Serie A side could be a possibility. Right now, the 24-year-old is also being linked with a move to AS Roma.
