Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been announced as the best Africa player of the year 2023, ahead of Achraf Hakimi and Mohammed Salah. He became the fifth Nigerian player to win the award and the first since Nwankwo Kanu won it in 1999.
It is a great success for the Napoli striker, who helped the Italian team secure a Scudetto dream. He was named the Prince of Naples by the fans, who couldn’t believe their favorite team would win a title in the 2022–23 season after various attempts.
In addition, Victor Osimhen helped Napoli reach the Champions League quarterfinals last season, but his injury was detrimental to the success of the team. However, he had been struggling to make an impact this season due to injuries.
Osimhen was not the only Nigerian to win the CAF Award; Asisat Oshoala was also named the Woman Player of the Year for the sixth time in a row.
