Chelsea set to complete signing of world-class player before deadline day

January transfer window deadline is around the corner, Chelsea are keen to strengthening their attacking options by signing a new striker.

The West London club completed the signings of Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer to improve their goalscoring options during the summer transfer window last year.

However, that has not quite worked out well for Chelsea football club so far as they are currently occupying the 9th position on the Premier League table under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

As a result of this, Chelsea want a new striker for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season and have been linked with a move for highly-rated Lille centre-forward Jonathan David.

The 24-year-old Canada International, who signed up for Lille after departing Gent back in 2020 has proven to be one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 over the previous seasons.

The young striker was hugely influential for Lille during the 2022/2023 season where he scored 26 goals and created four assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

Jonathan David has also continued in his impressive form for Lille so far this ongoing 2023/2024 season, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in the 27 matches he has played.

His excellent performances in front of gpal is believed to have caught the attention of Chelsea football club and according to reports from Transfer News Live, the Blues are keen on signing him.

The reports further claimed that Chelsea football club are really interested in Jonathan David and are making moves to lure him away from Ligue 1 side Lille this month.

It is believed that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to add more firepower to his goalscoring options this month and he has identified Jonathan David as a needed addition to his squad.

But with some other clubs also interested in the young striker, it remains to be seen where Jonathan David will choose to continue his developments if he eventually gets to leave Lille in January.
