How Jose Peseiro would lineup up Super Eagles with Saka, Madueke in AFCON tournament

Nigeria, three-time champions of Africa, aim to reclaim the continent's premier trophy as they kicked off their campaign with 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea on Sunday

The Super Eagles' last triumph at the continental level was 11 years ago, securing victory over Burkina Faso with a 1-0 score through Sunday Mba's exceptional first-half finish.

Currently, Nigeria boasts one of the strongest squads in this AFCON edition, at least on paper.

However, the team could have been formidable contenders if Udogie from Tottenham, Madueke from Chelsea, and Bukayo Saka had chosen to play for the Super Eagles. A potential lineup could have featured these three players, transforming the team's dynamics.

Goalkeeper: Despite recent average performances, Francis Uzoho is expected to start for Nigeria against Equatorial Guinea in three days.

Defence: The experience of Ola Aina, Troost-Ekong, and Omeruo would be crucial for keeping clean sheets, complemented by the youthful exuberance Destiny Udogie could have brought to the team.

Midfield: Although the midfield trio of Iheanacho, Joe Aribo, and Alex Iwobi may not contribute significantly defensively, Peseiro would likely start them for their offensive qualities and ability to unlock opponents' defenses with line-breaking passes.

Front Three: If Madueke and Bukayo Saka had chosen to represent Nigeria, they could have formed a formidable attack alongside Victor Osimhen. This lineup could pose a significant goal-scoring threat in the AFCON.

The absence of these potential additions does not diminish Nigeria's strength, but the inclusion of Udogie, Madueke, and Saka could have made them an even more formidable force in the tournament.
