Star Player delighted after signing for Chelsea – Blues told £73m target ‘will score goals'

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip that we think you guys may have missed today

Chelsea have reportedly been given a major boost to their hopes of signing Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt.

The 24-year-old defender has faced an uncertain future at Bayern Munich for a while now after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

According to Sky Sports Germany, De Ligt is ‘likely to leave’ the Bundesliga champions in the summer if a ‘suitable offer’ is submitted. The Netherlands international, who sees his contract at the Allianz Arena expire in 2027, joined Bayern from Juventus for €67million (£57.6m) in July 2022.

The report adds that the Man United are monitoring De Ligt’s situation closely, with Erik ten Hag short on world-class options at the back.

The Dutchman, who was once regarded as one of the world’s most exciting young players, has been linked with a move to Chelsea as a possible replacement for the departing Thiago Silva, who is expected to leave at the end of the season

There will be so much transfer speculation regarding CHELSEA over the next few weeks, and there will be so many players linked with a move to London.

But De Ligt is a brilliant defender, he is real leader on the pitch and for the right money, he would be a fantastic addition to that Chelsea defence, which has lacked a bit of power this season.

Mauricio Pochettino  will surely get the backing of the board and it will be interesting to see just who he signs by January the 31st as this Blues side need to add some experienced players to the side.

De Ligt may only be 24 years of age – but he has proven himself at the very top of the game already and has all the physical ability to cope in the Premier League.

GYOKERES WILL SCORE GOALS –

Reported Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres has got a new fan, in the form of Harry Redknapp.

Nicolas Jackson seems to have the trust of his manager Mauricio Pochettino, but it does not look like that will stop CHELSEA from entering the market for a new No.9.

He has been impressive at time during his stint at Stamford Bridge, but he does not look like a forward that has the ability to push on and score 20-30 or even 40 goals a season for the Blues.

And that has led to constant speculation in the media over the past few months that Chelsea will once again delve into that transfer kitty and add another striker to that attack that has the ability to score goals and Gyokeres is reportedly on the list.

The Swedish striker has been in sensational form this season scoring 22 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions in 24 appearances

And former Tottenham, West Ham and Bournemouth boss Redknappw has been impressed by the Swedish striker who hit 22 goals for Coventry City last season before earning himself a summer move to SP Sporting in Lisbon.

Speaking about Gyokeres on the BBC’s Trannsfer Gossip Daily podcast, Redknapp said: “I watched him last year scoring goals for fun. You thought what a goalscorer and what a finisher. [Clubs] sit on the fence and are scared to make a judgement.

“Yes, take him. He’s good enough. He’ll score goals. He scored at Coventry, he’ll score goals anywhere. No, he’s got to go somewhere else and then they’ve got to pay four times the money. There’s talent about down there.”

Portuguese newspaper Record has claimed that Chelsea made an opening offer of £73m to Sporting which was rejected. He is believed to have a release clause in his contract of £86 million.

Gyokeres is enjoying some of the best football of his life and is scoring goals on a regular basis – But the Premier League is not the Portuguese League and he could really struggle at a club like CHELSEA

CHARLES DELIGHTED WITH DEAL –

Niamh Charles has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with Chelsea and she is delighted with the signing.

The 24-year-old joined CHELSEA from Liverpool in the summer of 2020 and has contributed to three Barclays Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups, the Continental Tyres League Cup, and also helped us reach the 2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

‘I can’t wait for the next few years,’ said Charles. ‘I feel at home here and I feel the pride in playing for Chelsea and what we stand for, what we’re about. There’s still lots to be achieved here and we can get better and better. I wanted to be a part of that.

‘Since I’ve been here, I would probably describe it as a massive growth learning curve. It’s been challenging but it’s everything I’ve wanted since I came to Chelsea. I’ve grown a lot as a player and as a person. Hopefully that continues in the next few years.’

The 24-year-old defender also explained why the team spirit within the squad and her close bond with her fellow Blues is a big part of the reason she is so excited to commit her future to Chelsea.

‘I remember some times when our backs have been against the walls and we’ve managed to grind out a win, or we’ve ended up winning a trophy, and what I love is when you go back to the changing room and celebrate with your team-mates.

‘We spend days and days together on the training pitch that no-one sees, working really hard. To see it paying off like that, you can’t buy those moments.

‘I love playing football with them but I also love hanging out with them all the time, so I’m excited to come to work every day and see their faces and hopefully create a lot more memories, on the pitch and also off the pitch.’

‘To the fans, I’ll just say thank you so much for your support so far. I’ve really enjoyed playing in front of you and I feel a lot of pride when I pull on the shirt and I really appreciate you.’
