He's a perfect role model for young footballers - Neville on Chelsea star

Pundit Gary Neville was left really impressed by one Chelsea player in the first half of tonight’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

He claimed during his coverage for the game on Sky Sports that young players should absolutely look at Thiago Silva if they are wanting to improve their game.

Silva was brought back into the side tonight after being forced to watch the majority of their last game from the bench.

The decision to drop him from the starting team came as a surprise to the Chelsea supporters who travelled to Villa Park that night, however injury to Benoit Badiashile saw him recalled tonight.

In a first half in particular where it was all possession and not much else for the Blues, they fell behind to a stunning Jefferson Lerma goal after Noni Madueke was caught in possession on the edge of his own box.

The Brazilian was forced off in the second half when the scores were level, with him seeming to pick up an injury blocking a shot.

Neville praises Silva

While he was not present for the late turnaround on the pitch, Neville was full of praise for the defender for how he reads the game.

He said: “He’s a model for any centre-back watching the game Thiago Silva. 37 years of age. Anticipation of where the ball is going to drop is fantastic.”

Mauricio Pochettino stated after the game that they were waiting to assess Silva, although hinted that Malo Gusto had not picked up an injury late on.

With him being replaced by the impressive Levi Colwill in the second half as he made his return to the side after injury, he may well find it difficult to break back into the side in time to start the EFL Cup final at the end of this month against Liverpool.
