Chelsea completing £30m signing

Since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, they have spent gigantic fees on players, including the likes of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

The above is not to say that Roman Abramovich did not do the same; the former Chelsea owner obviously did.

At the same time, though, the Blues did sign some incredible players under him who would prove to be bargains.

Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante are a couple of names that come to mind, and it looks like Chelsea’s new ownership could have the opportunity to pull off a similar transfer to those two.

Eden Hazard was a bargain

Chelsea signed Hazard from Lille for £32m back in 2012 after winning the Champions League.

At the time, it was a lot of money, especially for a 21-year-old. When you look at what Hazard went on to achieve at Stamford Bridge, though, Chelsea fans can look back and say the club absolutely robbed Lille.

During his seven-year stint in west London, Hazard won the Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup to name a few of the honours he managed to get his hands on.

In total, the Belgian made 352 appearances and scored 110 goals. He was a truly devastating forward picked up for peanuts.

Ivan Toney could be Chelsea’s greatest bargain since Eden Hazard

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea are interested in Brentford’s Ivan Toney and could sign the striker for as little as £30m.

It is really hard to imagine Brentford selling their talisman for as low as that, but if they do and Chelsea manage to land him, the Blues could be looking at their best bargain since Hazard.

Toney scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, showing that he can find the back of the net at this level.

He is now 28, so if Chelsea can get a good five years out of him, five 20-goal seasons, that would make him a 100-goal striker acquired for just £30m.

That would be incredible business in this day and age, though it still seems quite unlikely
