I will pick Jay-Jay Okocha any time, any day ahead of Mikel Obi - Daniel Amokachi

Former Nigeria international, Daniel Amokachi, has no doubt to pick his former national teammate, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, ahead of former Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi.

Speaking on his programme the ‘Bull’s Pit’ on Brila FM, the ‘Bull’ as Amokachi is fondly called, said he would rather go for the former Bolton captain in midfield when the Super Eagles confront a tough opponent.

“I remember against Italy he made history with the most dribbles in a World Cup match,” Amokachi said when asked of his choice between the former midfielders.

“When Jay Jay (Okocha) is in his element, the opponent will not even see the ball. The through passes he gives are incredible. That’s the Jay-Jay you want to pick. So left for me, I will pick Jay-Jay any time, any day.”

Amokachi and Okocha both featured in the Eagles squad that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

Both players again represented the country at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups in USA and France respectively. They were part of the U-23 team that won Africa’s first gold in the football event in the Olympics at Atlanta 1996.

Mikel though never had the opportunity to share the same locker room with Amokachi, but was in the same squad with Okocha at the 2006 AFCON in Egypt, wearing the number eight jersey, and he go on to take over the number 10 jersey after Okocha’s retirement in 2006.
