Chelsea vs Wolves, Thomas Tuchel face Wolves on his first game under Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as we look at Chelsea lineup against Wolves tonight
One training session will not have given Thomas Tuchel enough time to make big decisions over the makeup of his Chelsea side. Which is why I don’t envisage any big surprises in his first starting XI as Blues head coach.
Edouard Mendy will almost certainly return in goal. The Senegal international sat out the FA Cup win over Luton Town on Sunday, a game in which Kepa Arrizabalaga was culpable for the Hatters goal.
I expect Reece James to stay in as right-back and his attacking talents will be vital for Tuchel going forward. It’s a similar situation for Ben Chiwell on the opposite flank, another nailed on starter for me.
In the heart of the defence, Thiago Silva, who worked with the German at Paris Saint-Germain, is a shoe in and I feel Antonio Rudiger may be handed the spot alongside the Brazilian.
Tuchel wanted to bring his compatriot to the French capital last summer so clearly has belief in Rudiger’s ability. It shouldn’t be forgotten that he has also started three of the last four Premier League games.
I feel Tuchel will go with a 4-2-3-1 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jorginho in the double pivot. He is another player Tuchel considered signing when in charge of PSG.
If N’Golo Kante has recovered from his hamstring injury, then he starts alongside the Italian. If he isn’t, then that spot is likely to go to Mateo Kovacic.
Hakim Ziyech has locked up the right flank and I don’t expect that to change. Christian Pulisic, who was coached by Tuchel at Dortmund, is likely to start on the left. That leaves two positions up for grabs: No.10 and the frontman.
It would be easy to throw in both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner into this predicted side simply because they are both German and so is Tuchel. And while I do feel the latter will spearhead the Blues attack despite his recent form, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Mason Mount as the ten.
The England international possesses the energy and pressing instincts that Tuchel will love. And while he will no doubt have to get the best out of Havertz long term, I think Mount may just edge him out of the side against Wolves.
