Fans tired of Marc Cucurella try and errors after given away cheap goals to Isak

Marc Cucurella made a strange decision in the first half against Newcastle, all but giving away the opening goal to the Magpies.

First, the left back didn’t step up with the rest of his line, playing Alexander Isak onside.

Then, when the ball was about to go to Isak, the Spaniard stepped towards the passer rather than Isak, who was now onside, in front of goal, and not under pressure. He scored, unsurprisingly.

In the end, Chelsea were able to equalise through Raheem Sterling, but it’s still a worry.

Cucurella has done so well to win Mauricio Pochettino’s favour, but he will find that in football that favour is easily lost. Not long ago Levi Colwill was the flavour of the month in that position, lest we forget. Cucurella wasn’t so bad he needs to get hauled off, it will just be interesting to see if this error changes Pochettino’s thinking in one of the few positions he doesn’t seem to have made his mind up on yet.
