Mauricio Pochettino reacts to Reece James red card

Mauricio Pochettino admitted he was “disappointed” by the red card for Reece James, but didn’t allow himself the chance to blame his captain excessively for the collapse today against Newcastle.

The coach responded that “this type of thing happens in football.”

He reiterated that he was “disappointed,” but added that Chelsea just “need to accept” the red and the result and move on.

We can’t imagine he was complaining about the cards themselves, which were absolutely text book. The only disappointment he can really have is about his own player messing up.

Pochettino knows he can’t blame his captain too directly at all. The mistake is made, there’s no point making a public rift. James knew the moment he walked off he’d had a mare.

It’s also important to not let the bad result cause you to make rash decisions because of frustration. We’ve got to look forward to the next game now.
