First January move lined up...

Chelsea appear to have lined up their first deal ahead the upcoming transfer window, with Mauricio Pochettino eager to further bolster his midfield. The Score Nigeria understands that the Blues are not looking to sell many players in January, however there is a possibility that one or two youngsters are sent out on loan.

After offloading 23 players in the summer on either a permanent or temporary basis, the Chelsea boss seems content with his first-team squad and the options at his disposal. However, with Romeo Lavia still yet to return from injury while Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are rarely given a rest, a new midfielder would be a much-welcomed addition.

According to the Evening Standard, Andrey Santos is expected to be recalled by the west Londoners from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest in January. The 19-year-old was a staple in the Chelsea starting lineup during pre-season but, despite impressing, he was shipped out on loan following the signing of Lesley Ugochukwu from Stade Rennais

Osimhen backed to join Chelsea

Glen Johnson believes that Victor Osimhen wants to join Chelsea in the January transfer window – even if they are struggling to climb the Premier League table. Speaking to GG Recon, the former Blues defender said: "Regardless of what’s happening at Napoli, I believe Victor would want to join Chelsea anyway.

"However, Victor will be kicking himself that this move could happen when Chelsea are currently in transition. Of course they’re a big team and they’re going to bounce back eventually.

"But as long as Victor is willing to wait 18 months or so for that to happen, then I’m sure he’d still want to sign for them in January. If Napoli continue to struggle this season, then that will make the decision even easier for Victor."

Silva leaps to James' defence

Thiago Silva has heaped praise on Reece James just days after the Chelsea right-back 'disappointed' Mauricio Pochettino. The 23-year-old was given his marching orders during the Blues' 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend.

In an interview with the official Chelsea website, the Brazilian said: "I have a really good relationship with Reece James. He’s a really good captain and he has a big future because he’s a really good listener.

"It’s my job to be a bit of a sounding board now. It’s hard because sometimes the players are very different in age to myself. What we want to do is speed up the process of understanding and I think the players we have here are generally good at that."
