What Pep Guardiola said about Romeo Lavia before joining Chelsea

Reports have now shared what Pep Guardiola noticed about Romeo Lavia before he joined Chelsea.

According to The Athletic, the Manchester City manager and his staff were perhaps left wishing he was still at the club after some of the transfers the made following his departure.

Lavia is yet to make a real impact since his big summer signing from Southampton last summer.

He was only featured once due to ongoing injury problems, with there currently being no date set for his return.

With him not playing, some have perhaps forgotten just how talented a player he is.

One person who seems to know that better than most is Guardiola, who will have got a good enough look at him when he was a youngster at City.

What Guardiola noticed about Lavia

When his side completed the deal to sign Kalvin Phillips, it has now been claimed that the Spaniard quickly realized Lavia was far more suited to what they wanted than the England international.

Chelsea fans will be awaiting the return of the teenager as they look to see what could be their first choice midfield for a decade to come.

Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo also joined the club for big money, with the latter also choosing the Blues instead of a potential move to Liverpool.

However, injuries and suspension have led to the trio not being able to play any games together since they all made the switch to West London.

Even having some depth in midfield would be a boost for Mauricio Pochettino right now, with him struggling with injury problems throughout the entire season so far.

An issue for Lesley Ugochukwu has seen the manager recall Cesare Casadei from his loan at Leicester, with him expected to play a past for the rest of the season.
