Chelsea eyes star player, Frankie as 17-year-old train with first team

While some Chelsea stars are away during the international break with their respective countries, the hard work continues for two weeks at the Cobham training ground. In fact, some academy talents have been bumped up to train with the seniors to help make up the numbers.

The Blues confirmed via their official website yesterday that they’ve drafted over some youngsters to mix it with the first team in their training.

We know that there’s been some incredible academy prospects come through the Chelsea academy over recent years. You only need to look at the likes of Conor Gallagher and Reece James in the current group as an example of that.

So, who’s the next breakout star from the pack?

Frankie Runham, the 17-year-old talent, has worked alongside Chelsea’s main group in training in recent days.

The teenager was pictured heading out for training in photos uploaded by the Blues official Instagram account yesterday.

In addition, Runham uploaded a post on his personal Instagram account confirming his participation in first-team training.

Hopefully, he’s seized the opportunity to catch the attention of Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea fans keep an eye out for Frankie Runham

Runham, who’s mainly playing as a winger this season, is making a good impact in the Chelsea under-18s team. He’s actually got four goals and three assists during 14 games in the U18s league this campaign.

The English youngster signed his first professional contract with Chelsea back in January, which received a congratulations from Blues icon John Terry on social media.

It’s fair to point out academy players are still getting a look-in right now at Chelsea despite massive financial investment in the last couple of years. This simply must remain the case in the long-term, too.

Chelsea do have a new generation of talent waiting in the wings ready to develop and breakthrough.
