Pundit reveals Chelsea player of the season not Cole Palmer

Pundit Graeme Souness has now had his say on who he thinks has been Chelsea’s standout player this season.

He told TalkSPORT that he doesn’t think new signing Cole Palmer is actually the player he would say has been their best performer throughout this campaign so far.

Palmer has been a revelation for the Blues in what has been his first campaign really as a regular at first team level.

Palmer starring for Chelsea

Hitting a combined 28 goals and assists in March of his first campaign is a monumental achievement, and a reliability in front of goal that Chelsea fans have not seen for a number of years now.

The 21-year-old has now become a regular in the England squad this season too, and only injuries have stopped him featuring in this international break so far.

His brilliance has seen Simon Jordan believe that he is actually the most important player in the Chelsea squad right now, saying: “He is probably the stand out player at Chelsea now.”

Souness backs Gallagher as player of the season

Souness disagreed however, stating he thinks that another Englishman has taken the acclaim.

He said: “I think Gallagher. I think there’s a shout for Gallagher being their best player this year.”

Gallagher has proven to be one of the most important players this season under Mauricio Pochettino, starting near enough every game and captaining his boyhood side on multiple occasions.

However, this has not put an end to multiple reports that he could still be on the move at the end of the season, when there will be just a year left on his contract.

There is currently no progress on him signing a new deal either, with the latest reports stating that he is looking for a wage similar to Moises Caicedo to sign a new deal.

While there is depth in a fully fit Chelsea midfield, it would still feel mental for them to strengthen a rival side with Gallagher at the end of the campaign.
