Abbey George blamed Jay-Jay Okocha, others as Super Eagles failed to qualify to 2006 World Cup in Germany

Former Nigeria international Abbey George has shifted his blame on Jay-Jay Okocha and others players for Super Eagles failure to earned qualification to 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Former Super Eagles defender, Abbey George on Saturday during a live interview with Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi of Authentic Nigeria Football Supporters club that was closely monitored revealed the reason why the Super Eagles failed to Qualify for 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Abbey who looked so disappointed for the inability of the Super Eagles to qualify for the Mundane, which could have been his world Cup appearance.

The versatile defender attributed the blame to the many of the senior players then and the leadership of the Nigeria football Federation.

On the parts of the players, he said that the first game against Angola in Luanda was played with non regulars( not up to 3 regular players) of the Super Eagles. Most of the key players claimed to be injured for the game, which he said it not true.

The Score Nigeria recall that the players underrated Angolans and so did made themselves unavailable for the first leg. In the return leg virtually every senior players returned because it was a home game and a do or die affair. He said that most of the senior players in the Super Eagles intentionally avoid away games during the 2006 qualifiers.

The Nigeria Football Federation were not spared out, even after the former president of the NFF Alhaji Galadima made the infamous statement, “qualifying for the world Cup is not our birthright”, Abbey George disclosed the unpleasant role the body played in the event.

First he highlighted how the team was lodged in a hotel that was in between markets at Luanda against Angola, the hotel served as accommodation to many of the locals in Angola, that you could see children walking and playing along the corridor of your room. The chants and the noise from the markets did not help matter as they could not sleep and relax before the first leg.

On the reserve fixture, the rational behind moving the do or die fixture from Abuja to Kaduna is yet to be understood.

The game was so tough that a glorious chance came to saw Nigeria through as referee awarded a penalty kick for the Super Eagles but unfortunately they didn’t convert the penalty at that time as the game ended in 1-1 draw, Angola qualified and Super Eagles out of the FIFA World Cup in Germany base on head-to-head aggregate.

The 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification CAF Group 4 was a CAF qualifying group for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The group comprised Algeria, Angola, Gabon, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The group was won by Angola, who qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Angola, Nigeria and Zimbabwe qualified for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations. Angola finished above Nigeria based on head-to-head results (Angola 1–0 Nigeria; Nigeria 1–1 Angola).
