Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly turned down a chance to sign Philippe Coutinho after the 27-year-old was offered to Red Devil by Barcelona, according to reports.
The former Liverpool forward moved to Bayern Munich last summer on a loan deal from Barcelona in a bid to get more playing time.
Upon moving to the German Bundesliga, the Brazilian is failing to make his mark and has been linked with a return to the Premier League.
Chelsea are reportedly interested in bringing the 27-year-old back to England for the second time but are yet to make a formal offer.
According to ESPN, Man United was given a chance to speak with the Brazil attacker but Solskjaer is reported to have passed on the chance to sign him.
Coutinho spent five years at Anfield, developing that rivalry between Man United and Liverpool before moving to Barcelona in January 2018 for a reported €160 million.
Solskjaer perceived it wouldn’t be wise to lure a player, who has previously played for their toughest rivals and would rather sign Jack Grealish or James Maddison from Aston Villa or Leicester City respectively.
The Reds are reportedly keen on signing Dortmund’s winger Jadon Sancho as well, with a recent report claiming United are eyeing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.
Though Sancho has not started for Dortmund since the Bundesliga returned early this month and with fans slamming the 20-year-old’s recent performances, the Reds feel the British talent is still ranking high on Solskjaer’s wishlist.
Man United legend Rio Ferdinand has recently urged the Reds to hand Sancho the club’s famous No.7 shirt as he believes the Dortmund star has the ‘arrogance’ to inherit the iconic jersey.
“Yes, I would, he’s that type of character,” Ferdinand told the 606 podcast.
“He’s got an arrogance about him, it’s what you want on a football pitch, they’d embrace that. So yes, I’d give it to him and put that pressure right on his shoulders!”
