Chelsea to sign next Leo Messi

Chelsea remains interested in signing River Plate's Claudio Echeverri, a 17-year-old talent often likened to the next Lionel Messi. Despite competition, including interest from Manchester City, the €25 million transfer appears probable in 2024 due to a release clause in Echeverri's contract. While he has limited senior experience and no professional goals, his potential has attracted several top European clubs.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update, stating, "Manchester City is actively pursuing Claudio Echeverri, while Chelsea remains keen. Barcelona faces difficulties due to financial issues." Barcelona's financial challenges suggest January movements may involve loan signings, as acknowledged by president Joan Laporta, who mentioned seeking a Gavi replacement on loan.

Echeverri expressed interest in playing for Barcelona, stating, "In addition to River, I would like to play for Barca. I am a big fan of Messi and saw him play in Barcelona." Although Manchester City and Chelsea seem more likely destinations, the player has decided not to renew his contract at River Plate, which extends until December 2024. He plans to stay for another six months or a year before considering his next move.
