What Mauricio Pochettino said about Chelsea's 5-0 lost to Arsenal

Chelsea suffered 5-0 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday's premier league fixture

This game marked Chelsea’s 11th league defeat of the season, as Chelsea lost to derby rivals, Arsenal.

The heavy defeat means Chelsea have now conceded 57 goals in the league this season – the most they’ve ever conceded in a single Premier League campaign – and Chelsea still have six games to play.

The most Chelsea had ever conceded was 55 which was in 1994/95 (when there was 42 games not the usual 38) and in 1996/97.

This season, Chelsea have kept just six clean sheets and rank 13th for most goals conceded – only Brentford, Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Burnley, Luton and Sheffield United have a worse defensive record.

The 5-0 defeat to Arsenal is the worst ever defeat Chelsea have suffered in their 209 meetings.

After being told about this embarrassing statistic, Pochettino was asked in his post-match press conference whether he felt let down by his players.

“No. There are different circumstances,” Pochettino replied.

“It is an experience we need to make sure it doesn’t happen in the future. The club is building a new project, a new way to operate.

“Of course this is the risk we need to take, when you build a new squad. The circumstances are not helping us be more competitive, be better or be more consistent.”
