Pius Ikedia only had 15 appearances, scored one goal for Nigeria

Pius Nelson Ikedia was born in July, 11, 1980 is a Nigerian former football player who played as a winger for OFC in the Dutch Hoofdklasse.

The 39-year-old Ikedia only had 15 appearances for the senior team scored one goal, which he made his first debut for Nigeria in 1997.

Ikedia has played fifteen international matches and scored one goal for Nigeria, for whom he debuted in 1997. He played at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Ikedia, 39, known for his silky skills yet his football career went off, he made 25 appearances for Ajax and scored 2 goals, from 1999 to 2005.

The former Nigeria winger Pius Ikedia collapsed on the pitch whilst playing in a club friendly game then.

According to Dutch newspaper Telegraaf, the 39-year-old winger had to be revived on the pitch after several attempts before he was later rushed to hospital for proper care.

The ex-Ajax stars known as ‘Lucky Ajax’, were leading 7-2 in an exhibition game to the mark the 50th anniversary of the Haarlo Sports Club when the incident happened late in the game.

Some of the other former Ajax stars on parade in that game included Kiki Musampa and John Bosman.

“It was a close shave with death for Pius,” a top source further informed.

“We only thank God that with proper care, we were not celebrating the death of another Nigeria football star on the pitch.”
